Quick Snap: Raiders fall to Panthers

The Raiders dropped their 2024 home opener to the Carolina Panthers, 36-22.

The Raiders defense looked vastly different than the unit that allowed an average of less than 200 passing yards a game in their first two contests. The Carolina Panthers' decision to start veteran quarterback Andy Dalton paid off as he threw three touchdowns in the first half. Dalton finished the day 26-of-37 for 319 yards plus the three touchdowns, improving his career record to 4-0 as a starter against the Silver and Black.

Gardner Minshew II and the Raiders offense went on a 97-yard drive that culminated with an Alexander Mattison rushing touchdown toward the end of the first quarter. Following the one score, the offense couldn't get much going. The Raiders starting quarterback went 18-for-28 with 214 yards, a touchdown pass to Jakobi Meyers and an interception.

Minshew has passed for 200+ yards and 1+ touchdown in each of his first three games with Las Vegas, tied for the second-longest streak by any Raider through his first three career games with the team (Jeff George, six in 1997).

Aidan O'Connell came in relief late in the fourth quarter, going 9-for-12 for 82 yards and a touchdown pass to Tre Tucker.

Tucker, the second-year receiver from Cincinnati, finished with a career-high seven catches for 96 receiving yards.

Bright spots for the defense were sacks from Christian Wilkins and Robert Spillane, however the Panthers totaled 437 yards of offense.

The Silver and Black (1-2) will look to bounce back in front of their home crowd next Sunday inside Allegiant Stadium against the Cleveland Browns (1-2).
