Quick Snap: Raiders fall to the Vikings

The Raiders fell Saturday to the Minnesota Vikings, 24-23, at U.S. Bank Stadium in their first preseason action of 2024.

The Silver and Black got off to a hot start with a big stop by the defense – a Jakorian Bennett pass deflection on fourth-and-goal in the end zone. Aidan O'Connell got the start and impressed in his lone drive of the contest, completing 7-of-9 pass attempts down the field with the drive resulting in a 31-yard field goal. O'Connell's chemistry with Jakobi Meyers and rookie Brock Bowers was evident, as the two combined for 70 receiving yards.

Later in the second quarter, Jack Jones secured the defense's only turnover of the game by picking off first-round pick J.J. McCarthy.

Gardner Minshew II made the most of the good field position off the interception to throw for 49 yards and a touchdown on his first drive in the game. He finished with team-high 117 passing yards.

The Raiders went into halftime with a 20-7 lead over the Vikings after two trips to the end zone from DJ Turner and Zamir White, who rushed 23 yards in the first half.

However, things started to slow down for Las Vegas in the second half. McCarthy resurged, throwing two touchdowns in the third quarter to take the lead while the Raiders offense went quiet.

The Raiders regained the lead early in the fourth, picking up some steam with 44 combined rushing yards from running back Sincere McCormick and quarterback Anthony Brown Jr. Carlson knocked in a 23-yarder for the Raiders to go up 23-21.

Ultimately, the Vikings pieced together a game-winning drive led by QB Nick Mullens and a field goal in the final seconds gave Minnesota the win.

The Raiders return to Allegiant Stadium next Saturday to take on the Dallas Cowboys at 7 p.m. PT.
