Kicker Daniel Carlson scored the only points of the half for the Raiders as they trail Atlanta 9-3 entering halftime.
Here are some first-half takeaways:
Ridder Starts Against Former Team
With Gardner Minshew II on injured reserve and Aidan O'Connell battling a knee injury, quarterback Desmond Ridder made his first start at quarterback for the Raiders. Ridder was signed off Arizona's practice squad to the active roster in October. He began his career in Atlanta after being drafted in the third round (74th overall) of the 2022 NFL Draft and started 17 games for the Falcons from 2022-23.
Ridder finished the first half 7-of-11 for 59 yards. He also showed his ability as a runner, picking up 22 yards on three carries.
Miscues Help Falcons Take – and Keep – Lead
Miscues by the Raiders gave Atlanta great starting field position on its first two possessions. The Falcons began their first drive at the Raiders 48-yard line after recovering an Alexander Mattison fumble. The Raiders defense stood strong though as rookie defensive tackle Jonah Laulu sacked Kirk Cousins on third down for a 10-yard loss to push the Falcons out of field goal range.
The Raiders' next possession resulted in a tipped punt and Atlanta took over just shy of midfield at their own 49-yard line. They capitalized in six plays and found the end zone on a 30-yard touchdown pass from Kirk Cousins to Drake London.
In the second quarter, Ameer Abdullah called for a fair catch at the three-yard line and the Falcons took advantage with a safety on a run play two snaps later.
