Both teams missed long field goals in the second quarter as the Raiders enter halftime facing a 10-3 deficit at Arrowhead Stadium.
Here are some first-half takeaways:
O'Connell Starts at Quarterback
Aidan O'Connell - activated off injured reserve this week - made his third start of the season and first start since Week 7. All eight of his first-half completions went to Brock Bowers and Jakobi Meyers for a combined 107 yards.
The offense moved into Chiefs' territory on two of their four possessions but came away with only three points.
For the second week in a row, Ameer Abdullah and Sincere McCormick handled the bulk of the rushing opportunities for the Raiders. The Silver and Black ran for 58 yards on 11 attempts (5.3 avg.).
Penalties Prove Costly in First Quarter
The Raiders had three accepted penalties in the first quarter.
On the opening drive, Kansas City moved into the red zone after a 20-yard pass interference penalty on Jack Jones. Jones responded, however, on third down with a pass breakup to force a field goal.
The Raiders got behind the chains on a holding penalty on their first offensive possession and couldn't recover. Several plays later, another holding penalty negated an AJ Cole punt that bounced out of bounds at the one-yard line.
Numbers to Know
Daniel Carlson's streak of 18 consecutive made field goals ended in the second quarter when he came up short on a kick from 56 yards out.
The Chiefs found most of their offensive success in the pass game as Patrick Mahomes finished the half 15-of-24 for 192 yards and a touchdown pass to Justin Watson. The Raiders defense stood strong in the run game, allowing just 10 rushing yards on eight carries. Kansas City's 10 rushing yards are their fewest in the first half of a regular season game since 2017.
The Silver and Black sacked Mahomes three times in the first half, extending their streak of consecutive games with a sack to 30. Zach Carter notched his first sack as a Raider while K'Lavon Chaisson added 1.5 sacks and Robert Spillane contributed a half-sack.
