Halftime Report: Raiders score on both possessions, trail Dolphins by 4

The Raiders fell behind 10-3 but cut the deficit to 10-6 with a late field goal before the end of the half.

Here are some first-half takeaways:

Scott Turner Takes Over Offense

Following a number of staff changes during the bye week, interim offensive coordinator Scott Turner called plays for the first time this season. The Raiders offense only had two possessions in the first half but scored on both of them.

What looked like a three-and-out on their first possession turned into a scoring drive after a Miami penalty for running into punter AJ Cole. The Raiders moved the ball down to the Dolphins 10-yard line but a sack on second down set up third-and-long and an eventual field goal. Daniel Carlson converted from 27 yards out to put the Silver and Black on the board.

On the second possession, the Raiders moved the ball well again, in large part due to Brock Bowers. The rookie tight end caught three passes for 37 yards on the drive. Like the first possession though, the Raiders couldn't find the end zone and settled for a second field goal.

Getting Off The Field

The Raiders had several chances to get off the field on Miami's opening drive but couldn't finish the job. The Dolphins gained first downs on third-and-seven, third-and-20 (on a defensive holding penalty) and third-and-three. Miami also recovered a fumble after a strip-sack by Tyree Wilson to maintain possession.

Then on a fourth-and-goal play from the one-yard line, Jonnu Smith went in motion and Tua Tagovailoa found him in the end zone for a 7-0 lead.

Tagovailoa was 7-of-8 for 48 yards on the drive.

On the next drive, a sack by Adam Butler forced a Dolphins field goal.

Numbers To Know

Both teams finished the half 4-of-7 on third down. In a statistically similar 30 minutes of football, the difference in the game thus far has been the red zone. Miami converted on one of their red zone trips while Las Vegas settled for field goals.

Brock Bowers finished the half with four receptions for 50 yards, his third-most in a first half of a game this season. Bowers is the ninth rookie tight end in NFL history with 60+ receptions in a single season.

Neither team turned the ball over in a combined five possessions.
