Halftime Report: Raiders force two fumbles, score 13 straight points to lead Jaguars at the break

The Raiders rallied back from a 7-0 deficit with 13 consecutive points to take a 13-7 lead against the Jaguars, the team's third halftime lead of the season and first since Week 12.

Here are some first-half takeaways from Allegiant Stadium:

O'Connell Returns As Starter

After missing the Raiders' Monday Night Football game against Atlanta with a knee injury, quarterback Aidan O'Connell returned to make his fifth start of the season. The offense got off to a slow start as sacks and negative plays led to punts on the Raiders' first two possessions. But on their third drive, O'Connell got things going with a career-long run of 13 yards.

He then completed passes to Jakobi Meyers (24 yards) and Tre Tucker (29 yards) to move the ball to the Jaguars one-yard line. Alexander Mattison capped the drive with his fourth rushing touchdown of the season to tie the game at 7-7. O'Connell was 10-of-17 for 155 passing yards in the first half. He also led the team with 18 rushing yards.

Daniel Carlson converted on both of his field goal attempts to push the Raiders' lead to six after 30 minutes of play.

Jaguars Capitalize on Mistakes

After a rough week for the special teams unit against Atlanta, they allowed great starting field position to their opponent again on the Raiders' second punt of the game. Devin Duvernay returned the kick 26 yards, got an extra 15 yards added on thanks to an unnecessary roughness penalty and the Jaguars began their drive at the Raiders 29-yard line.

A third-down conversion to Brian Thomas Jr. and a defensive pass interference penalty in the end zone moved the ball down to the goal line where Tank Bigsby powered his way in for a one-yard score to take what was an early 7-0 lead.

Defense Dominates First 30 Minutes

Aside from the lone drive that the Jaguars began from inside the Raiders 30-yard line, the Silver and Black's defense dominated the first half. Jacksonville quarterback Mac Jones completed just 11 of his 21 pass attempts for 92 yards.

In Jacksonville's six possessions, excluding the scoring drive, the Jaguars punted on four and fumbled on the other two. Safety Isaiah Pola-Mao recorded his first two career forced fumbles on the final two possessions of the half.

Numbers To Know

- Jaguars wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. entered Week 16 ranked ninth in the NFL and second among rookies in receiving yards (956). The Raiders held Thomas to just four receptions for 31 yards on eight targets in the first half.

- Interim offensive coordinator Scott Turner acknowledged during the week that the staff needed to find a way to get Brock Bowers more involved. On the offense's first play of the game, Bowers recorded a catch-and-run of 32 yards, which made him the third rookie tight end in NFL history to record a 1,000+ receiving yard season.

- Yellow flags were flying throughout the first 30 minutes of play as the two teams combined for nine accepted penalties.
