Halftime Report: Raiders in battle with undefeated Chiefs

The Raiders took the lead in the second quarter on a field goal from Daniel Carlson, but 10 late points from the Chiefs gave the visitors a 17-10 lead entering halftime.

Here are some first-half takeaways:

Meyers scores in return

Before missing the past two games due to injury, wide receiver Jakobi Meyers ranked second on the team in receptions (25) and receiving yards (273). He made a triumphant return to the field Sunday, catching an 11-yard pass on the Raiders' first third down of the game to move the chains. Later in the drive, Meyers hauled in a seven-yard touchdown pass from Gardner Minshew II to tie the game at 7-7. The veteran wide receiver totaled four catches for 35 yards in the first half.

Third-Down Defense

The Raiders came into the game allowing their opponents to convert on only 30.6 percent of their third down opportunities. On the first drive of the game, however, the Chiefs converted both of their third-down attempts for a combined 34 yards and eventually took a 7-0 lead.

On Kansas City's second possession, the Raiders' money-down defense came through. On third-and-five, defensive end Tyree Wilson beat left tackle Wanya Morris and took down Patrick Mahomes to force a punt. It marked Wilson's first sack of the season and extended the Silver and Black's streak to 26 straight games with a sack, the fourth-longest active streak in the NFL. It is the longest streak for the Raiders since a 28-game streak between the 2015 and 2016 seasons.

Numbers to Know

Both quarterbacks - Minshew and Mahomes - played efficient football over the first 30 minutes of action, combining for two touchdowns, seven incompletions and no interceptions. Minshew completed his first eight passes for 101 yards while Mahomes went 19-of-24 for 192 yards.

With the NFL celebrating National Tight Ends Day, it's only fitting that rookie tight end Brock Bowers and Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce each made a big impact in the first half. Bowers led the Raiders with 39 receiving yards on three catches while Kelce caught seven of his eight first-half targets for 61 yards and a touchdown.

Five-time Pro Bowl wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins joined Kansas City in a trade this week and recorded two catches for 29 yards on three targets.

Neither team had much success on the ground as the Raiders totaled 28 rushing yards on 13 carries and the Chiefs tallied 26 rushing yards on 10 carries.
