Halftime Report: Raiders come out hot in first preseason game vs. Vikings

Out the gate fast

Aidan O'Connell drew the start at quarterback and got the offense down the field with ease.

On the first drive of the game, he went 7-of-9 for 76 yards. His top targets were Jakobi Meyers and first-rounder Brock Bowers, who combined totaled six of the QB's seven completions. The drive resulted in a 31-yard field goal from Daniel Carlson that put the Silver and Black on the scoreboard first.

Jumpin' Jack

Jack Jones has been a ballhawk since arriving to Las Vegas, and things haven't changed in the start of the preseason.

The third-year cornerback came away with an interception in the second quarter, leaping up to make a play on a floating ball near the sideline. Jones can thank the front seven for helping him secure the turnover, as Vikings' first-round quarterback JJ McCarthy was under heavy pressure on the run from Divine Deablo, Janarius Robinson and Tyree Wilson on a blitz.

15 to 19 for the score

Following the success O'Connell had on his first drive, Gardner Minshew II came in on the second drive and stayed at QB to finish out the half.

On his first drive in the second quarter, the Pro Bowler moved the ball down the field with a 29-yard completion to Tre Tucker and a seven-yard rush to convert on third down. The drive ended with a play-action rollout, hitting DJ Turner in stride for a 20-yard touchdown.

A special preseason play

One of the most exciting plays of the first-half came on special teams.

Minnesota Vikings rookie kicker Will Reichard lined up for a 36-yard field goal with the hope of narrowing the team's deficit to seven points. Raiders UDFA defensive lineman TJ Franklin leaped up to block the field goal attempt and former Nebraska safety Phalen Sanford caught the block, sprinting 42 yards up the field.

The turnover resulted in an impressive 56-yard field goal from Carlson, making it 20-7 at the half.
