Defense Pitches Second-Quarter Shutout
Cleveland entered the game as one of four NFL teams to score on each of their opening drives this season. They continued that trend today with a methodical 15-play, 70-yard drive that took up 9:22 of game time and resulted in a one-yard touchdown pass from Deshaun Watson to tight end Blake Whiteheart.
The Browns went 8-of-43 on third down conversions (32nd in the league) through their first three games but moved the chains on all three of their third down opportunities on the opening possession.
The Browns went 0-of-3 on third down conversions after the opening drive and were held to just 45 total yards and zero points in the second quarter.
At halftime, the Raiders and Browns were tied at 10.
Tre Tucker Continues Strong Play
After a three-and-out on the Raiders' first possession, wide receiver Tre Tucker found a rhythm with quarterback Gardner Minshew II. The two connected for a 14-yard completion on third-and-six and another 14-yard pass just two plays later.
Tucker finished off the drive on a three-yard touchdown run off a double handoff to put the Raiders on the board. It marks the first time in his career with touchdowns in back-to-back games.
He finished the half with team highs in receptions (four) and receiving yards (41).
Getting The Run Game Going
After failing to top 55 rushing yards in the first three games, the Silver and Black totaled 95 rushing yards on 16 carries (5.9 avg.) in the first half alone. Zamir White tallied 11 carries for 47 yards (4.3 avg.) while Alexander Mattison broke free for a 24-yard run, the team's longest of the season.
The Raiders outgained the Browns 80 rushing yards to two during the second quarter.
